    History

The Multi Mega Known as the CDX in North America was brought out by Sega to be a Mega Drive/Mega cd and portable CD player all in 1 compact unit. To this day it is a fantastic machine, It didn't sell many units so across the world it is still a very rare machine to find and makes it quite expensive, There are a number of loose consoles in the wild but finding a boxed unit is like hens teeth.

    Power adapter

It is common to find these with an underpowered power adapter as the one from the megadrive model 2 or 32x will fit the unit, but the output is around half of what it needs. Using an underpowered supply can cause damage to the laser and also cause the unit to not function correctly. Luckily lasers are around £20 to buy the unit uses the Sanyo sf-c93aq. Be aware that there is an sf-c93 last available, but this will not work on the unit. We will be showing a guide on how to change the laser. it can be tricky but with basic skill is possible.

    Battery corrosion

It is common for the battery compartment to corrode and stop working so should be checked when purchasing. It is a sought-after machine by collectors even to this day. If you are lucky enough to find one keep hold of it. A beautiful piece that anyone would be lucky to own.

    Mega Cd

The Multi Mega will play both Mega Drive and Mega cd games and the CDX will Play games from the Genesis and Sega CD both will play Music acting as a CD player. Again, like the Mega Cd/Sega CD Genesis and Mega Drive the Mega CDX are region Locked so games are not compatible with each other. The tv Cable adapter used to connect to the tv is the same that you get with the Mega Drive 2 consoles. There is the standard tv cable and also a Scart cable that are both compatible.

    Information

If you search the Internet you will find limited information on these retro games consoles, Some sites do say that the Multi Mega struggle with games that are FMV based. Even though Sega hasn't released information the Multi Mega can be connected to 32x game consoles. There is a headphone jack if you want to use it as a portable CD player.

When was the Multi Mega Released?

It was released in 1994 with around 20,000 units selling worldwide. So it is an honour if you are lucky enough to get one. There isn't much information on this version of video game console so having them repaired can be difficult. Released in Low production numbers it is considered rare.

Overall is it a great compact media device that will play video cdg, Music cd discs and other media on discs. With them being rare the prices will keep rising. You can check flea markets and local marketplaces to find used ones, you may occasionally see the main unit but missing power supply. If you have the room the Mega cd with Mega drive is a solid option that is robust as long as it is well looked after.

We describe games in detail to help you to make good buying decisions.
Sega Mega Drive games are graded as follows
Mint- Hanger present with no damage at all to the game.
VGC - Complete with a manual but may show minor signs of wear.
Good - May not have a hanger but will include a manual. There may be obvious minor signs of wear such as dog-eared manual edge wear to the sleeve.
Acceptable - Showing signs of wear and maybe not having a manual. If there is a manual it may be sun-bleached or faded. Finally, the sleeve could contain small tears.
Poor - Visible tears or missing a manual. We would describe this item as very worn and not ideal for collectors.
